The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is currently seeking a Temporary Traffic Crew Specialist in Sheridan, Wyoming. This position will assist in striping operations throughout District 4 in Northeastern Wyoming in order to provide a safe, high quality, and efficient transportation system for the State of Wyoming.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.

+ Assist traffic crews with general maintenance operations.

+ Follow striping crew with nurse truck to supply paint and beads.

+ Travel throughout Northeast Wyoming with traffic crews spending 3 nights per week out of town.

+ Traffic crews work four 10-hour days per week in the Summer months.

+ Subject to 24 hour call out in the event of an emergency.



This is an entry level position that requires no prior training or experience.

**Agency requires that the successful applicant possess a valid CDL.


+ Knowledge of basic computer skills.

+ Knowledge of and use of power tools and tape measures.

+ Knowledge of Federal and State requirements for proper use of personal protective equipment.

+ Frequent use of manual and powered hand tools.

+ Daily use of motor vehicles and heavy equipment.

+ Frequent exposure to hazardous materials.

+ Ability to sit/stand and operate equipment for long periods of time.

+ Ability to lift and/or carry 50 pounds independently.

+ This position requires working outside in a variety of weather conditions

+ Must be able to travel extensively throughout the district


+ FLSA: Non-Exempt

+ This is a temporary, full-time position that will not exceed 9 months of consecutive employment.

+ WYDOT will conduct motor vehicle record checks to verify for a valid driver's license.

+ Individuals in this classification must pass a pre-employment drug screening and/or physical and will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

+ Extensive overnight travel is required.

+ All new hires or rehires starting in a non-exempt position on or after January 1, 2018 are required to be paid hourly.

+ Individuals in this classification must be available for emergency work calls at anytime, including nights, weekends and holidays. Acceptance of an appointment to this classification signifies that the individual is aware of this requirement and will comply with it. Failure to be available for emergency work, without an acceptable excuse, will be grounds for immediate disciplinary action and possible dismissal.

+ Individuals must report to the department Shop within 30 minutes of receiving a call.
