GENERAL DESCRIPTION:



The Registered Nurse will be responsible for addressing the medical and psychiatric care needs, as applicable, of the youth in the residential program; providing staff training and support; will work closely with the program's contract providers to meet resident needs and maintain quality of care.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.






+ Functions as secondary vaccine coordinator.

+ Provides professional nursing services to patients, clients and staff in chronic as well as acute care settings.

+ Performs nursing assessment, diagnosis, treatment & evaluation of ill and disabled persons.

+ Provides continuous care of patients through assessing, evaluating and implementing processes to assure appropriate patient care and outcomes.

+ Accurately prepares and administers medications and treatments as ordered by the physician.

+ Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity.

+ Triages calls from staff and handles routine concerns and emergencies.

+ Communicates with Physician and follows through on orders as appropriate.

+ Reviews lab values and consult reports.

+ Provides formal assessments, documentation and progress notes.

+ Assists with patient ADL's (activities of daily living).

+ Maintains resident health records.

+ Arranges for and conducts nursing clinics and classes; teaches individuals and groups in health promotion and disease prevention.

+ Assists in the updates of medication and treatment assistance records.




















Qualifications




KNOWLEDGE:






+ Knowledge of laws, principles, practices and techniques of professional nursing.

+ Knowledge of the maintenance of medical records, charts, reports, and observations.

+ Knowledge of principles of nursing process and scientific process.

+ Knowledge of public healthcare functions and essential services.

+ Knowledge of applying medical diagnosis and treatment to patient care.

+ Knowledge of scientific concepts as a basis for decision making.

+ Knowledge of physical, biological and behavioral sciences.

+ Knowledge of evaluation services and programs according to standards.

+ Knowledge of work management and leadership theory and practice.

+ Knowledge of federal, state and local law pertaining to healthcare.

+ Knowledge of medication and treatment assistance records.

+ Knowledge of electronic record keeping and database management.
















MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:





Education:


Bachelor's Degree (typically in Nursing)





Experience:


0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing) with acquired knowledge at the level of an LPN



Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:


Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming




OR



Education & Experience Substitution:


3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing) with acquired knowledge at the level of an LPN





Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:


Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming






Necessary Special Requirements




PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:



Must be able to:



+ Lift/transfer patients to different positions.

+ Lift medical/patient equipment of varying sizes and weights up to about 50 lbs.

+ Restrain clients for treatments, climb stairs to patient homes, drive long distances.

+ Travel throughout the state and to national conferences if requested.

+ Work evenings, nights and /or weekends when the situation requires it.

+ FLSA: Exempt

+ All positions within the Department of Family Services the Department of Family Services will require a background information check, Including the taking of fingerprints, which will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation, the Department of Family Services and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for every successful applicant.
