### Summary
**Summary of Duties:**
The pipefitters are required to have a knowledge of how various high-pressure piping systems and equipment, such as steamheating, steam generation, and vacuum systems, radiators, and circulating pumps, are installed and operate. For example, the pipefitters must know how relief valves, check valves, pressure regulators, expansion joints, and other pressure supporting and controlling devices are installed and how they operate to control increases and decreases in pressure, flow, circulation, and expansion in the systems. The pipefitters must have the ability to plan and lay out the installation, modification, and repair of various new and existing piping systems and equipment. Must have the ability to plan and layout angles, arcs, and circles in performing calculating pipe, joint, and valve sizes, and aligning pipes. Experience in identifying the proper methods and plan work sequences for repairing and installing piping sections or to plan and layout plumbing work. Able to plan, set up, and performed complex modifications to low and high pressure piping systems, steam generating, utility, supply hydraulic and disposal systems, flash and expansion tank, condensate, vacuum circulating pumps, radiators, fire sprinkler systems and various toilet fixtures. Knowledge to include experience in pipefitting assignments on large commercial buildings or medical buildings. Able to perform the work without more than normal supervision.

### Responsibilities
Installs, repairs and maintains high pressure piping systems such as steam heating, steam power, hydraulic and high pressure air or oil line system. Determines nature and extent of necessary repairs. Plans band lays out work from blueprints, drawings, technical manuals or specifications. Determines work sequence and tools to be used.Works with a variety of pipe and pipe fittings including those made of copper, brass, lead, glass and plastic. Measures, cuts, bends, threads, packs and joins piping to pipe fittings. Installs valves, traps, thermostats and gages to maintain flow and pressure. Makes pressure test of piping systems to assure pressure tight joints and proper circulation and flow. Uses hand and power tools of the pipefitting trade. Makes independent judgments and decisions within the frame-work of oral and written instructions and accepted trade practices, processes and procedures while completing assignments.
* Knowledge of plumbing Equipment and assembly, installation, trouble shoot and repair.
* Technical experience in pipe cutting, treading, brazing, welding, gluing, fusing, and soldering.
* Ability to interpret technical manuals, manufacture Instructions, specifications including blueprints.
* Strong background in shop mathematics, converting measurements, determine pitch, incline elevations.
* Solid knowledge in performing repairs and maintenance on high pressure piping systems.
* Able to perform repairs and maintenance on hydraulic, nitrogen, oxygen, steam-heating and steam generating systems.
* Installs piping through floors, walls and ceilings of various structures. Joins pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings or solder and caulks joints.
* Makes pressure test of piping systems to assure pressure tight joints and proper circulation and flow.

**Work Conditions:**
I acknowledge the extreme working conditions and environments of the job. These include: excessive heat, excessive cold, excessive dampness or chilling, working below ground, working alone, operation of crane, truck, tractor, or motor vehicle, heaving lifting, 45 pounds and over, Heavy carrying 45 pounds or over, reaching above shoulder, working on ladders, scaffolding, platforms, work in hard to reach places, stands, stoops, bends, kneels, work in dirty, dusty, greasy, areas with fumes, frequently exposed to the possibility of strains, cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns, and infections, occasionally exposed to the possibility of broken bones. I acknowledge these extreme working conditions and environments listed above and understand the working conditions of the Pipefitter position.
**Physical Conditions:**
The pipefitters make repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and where the systems and equipment worked on are in hard-to-reach places. This requires the pipefitters to be expected on heavy lifting, 45 pounds and over, heavy carrying, 45 pounds and over, reaching above shoulders, walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, working indoors, outdoors, working around excessive heat and cold. Exposed to slippery or uneven walking surfaces, working around machinery and moving parts, working alone, and may experience excessive dampness or chilling including dust, fumes and radiant energy.
### Qualifications
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
**Specialized Experience:**You must have one year of specialized experience within the occupation series. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to experience that provided knowledge and the ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision in performing repairs and maintenance on hydraulic, nitrogen, oxygen, steam-heating systems. Including a strong background in shop mathematics, able to convert measurements, determine pitch, incline, elevations to include using computational measurements to determine end-to-center, center-to-center measurements. In addition to the experiences above to include knowledge and experience reading plumbing blueprints, sketches, layouts and organized the job part list and details on the necessary equipment to complete the job.
To Qualify as a current federal or former federal employee you must provide a copy of your **Standard Form (SF) 50**. This personal document can be obtained from your previous or current employer.
VEOA Veterans must provide a copy of there **DD-214 Member Copy 4 only.**
